TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Puerto Madero at midday on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 17:23 UTC (11:23 local time). The epicenter was roughly 64 km south-southwest of Puerto Madero, at a depth of 37 km.

Over the last week, 11 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above have been recorded in the area, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 7.3, occurred in the same region prior to this quake.
