COPPER RIVER CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.2 magnitude quake shook near McCarthy on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor, which jolted the area at 11:37 a.m. (3:37 a.m. local time), was centered about 76 miles southeast of McCarthy. It occurred at a depth of 5 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.

Tremors last week
Last week, there have been three tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The largest, measuring 3.5, rattled near Yakutat prior to this quake.
