A 5.2 magnitude quake occurred near Jacó around midday Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 18:11 UTC (12:11 local time). The epicenter was roughly 18 km northwest of Jacó, at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.

Those who noticed the earthquake are encouraged to report it via the USGS Felt Report form. The agency has received 31 responses on its online form so far, from people saying they felt light shaking. Residents reported experiencing the quake in a number of cities, including Tilarán, Ipís, San Pedro, Quepos and Heredia according to the USGS DYFI report.

Past week’s tremor
One earthquake with a magnitude 4.2 was detected in the area. It was recorded close to Tejar on Jul. 2.
