A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Friday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor hit the area at 08:59 UTC (19:59 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter about 168 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Two tremors closeby last week
In the past week, there have been two quakes above magnitude 2.5 centered in the area. Both were recorded in the same region where the larger one was a 4.9 earthquake that rattled on Apr. 20. The other, of magnitude 4.6, shook on Apr. 20.
