Update: April 24 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake registered close to Ternate, Indonesia

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Ternate at midday on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck the area at 04:45 UTC (13:45 local time). It occurred at a depth of 41 km with the epicenter about 122 km west-northwest of Ternate. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.3 but later downgraded to 5.1.

In the past week, there have been three tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby. The largest, measuring 5.1, hit near Bitung on Apr. 18.
