Update: Earthquake strikes region close to Lorengau, Papua New Guinea on May 9 – 5.0 magnitude registered

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Lorengau on Saturday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted the area at 09:12 UTC (19:12 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter about 106 km south-southeast of Lorengau.

Quakes last week

During the past week, the area has experienced four tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above. The largest, measuring 5.6, occurred in the same region on May 8.
