Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 strikes area close to Katsuura, Japan on April 16

A 5.0 magnitude quake hit near Katsuura on Thursday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 14:43 UTC (23:43 local time), a tremor rattled the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter approximately 278 km southeast of Katsuura.
