Update: April 9 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake detected close to South Shetland Islands

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to South Shetland Islands on Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which struck the area at 21:59 UTC (17:59 local time), was centered of South Shetland Islands. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later downgraded to 5.0.
