Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake hits near Onagawa Chō, Japan on April 2

OSHIKA DISTRICT, Miyagi — A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Onagawa Chō on Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which struck the area at 00:52 UTC (09:52 local time), was centered roughly 35 km south-southeast of Onagawa Chō. It occurred at a depth of 49 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.0 but later upgraded to 5.1.
