ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.2 magnitude quake occurred near Attu Station on Tuesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 8:59 p.m. (8:59 a.m. local time), was centered about 140 miles east-southeast of Attu Station. It occurred at a depth of 6 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.5 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.

Tremors last week

Last week, there have been 14 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby. The strongest, a 5.0 magnitude quake, was recorded in the same region on Mar. 18.
