A 5.4 magnitude quake was recorded near Madang Wednesday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The tremor hit the area at 11:14 UTC (21:14 local time). It occurred at a depth of 81 km with the epicenter situated approximately 17 km southeast of Madang. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.5 event, but later downgraded it to 5.4.
