Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude recorded close to Sola, Vanuatu on Jan. 20

Tuesday evening, a 5.0 magnitude quake was reported near Sola, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 08:18 UTC (19:18 local time), was centered approximately 191 km north-northwest of Sola. It occurred at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
