Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake hits near Santiago Astata, Mexico on Jan. 20

SANTIAGO ASTATA, Oax. — Tuesday morning, a 5.0 magnitude quake was detected near Santiago Astata, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 11:30 UTC (05:30 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of 39 km, with its epicenter about 8 km east-southeast of Santiago Astata.
