Update: Seismic activity on Jan. 5 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake northwest of the Kuril Islands reported

Monday morning, a 5.1 magnitude quake was registered northwest of the Kuril Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 22:32 UTC (08:32 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of 414 km, with its epicenter northwest of the Kuril Islands of northwest of the Kuril Islands. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.
