Update: Earthquake shakes region close to Kokopo, Papua New Guinea on Dec. 21 – 5.2 magnitude registered

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake hit near Kokopo Sunday afternoon.

A tremor jolted the area at 05:25 UTC (15:25 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 142 km south-southwest of Kokopo and occurred at a depth of 33 km.
