Update: Dec. 18 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake detected close to Bitung, Indonesia

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake jolted near Bitung Thursday afternoon.

The tremor, which shook the area at 05:30 UTC (14:30 local time), was centered roughly 72 km east of Bitung. It occurred at a depth of 76 km.
