Update: Dec. 17 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake registered near Shikotan, Russia

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake jolted close to Shikotan at midday on Wednesday.

A tremor struck the area at 01:44 UTC (11:44 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 96 km east of Shikotan and occurred at a depth of 10 km.
