YAKUTAT CITY AND BOROUGH, AK — A 5.2 magnitude quake was detected close to Yakutat on Saturday around midday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor struck the area at 8:46 p.m. (1:46 p.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 58 miles north-northeast of Yakutat and occurred at a depth of just 3 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.8 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.
