Oct. 16: Earthquake measuring 5.1 strikes region close to Abepura, Indonesia

SARMI REGENCY, Papua — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake shook near Abepura Thursday morning.

The tremor hit the area at 17:02 UTC (02:02 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated about 180 km west-northwest of Abepura.

Tremors past week

Last week, five tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater have been detected in the area. The strongest, a 6.5 magnitude quake, slammed the same region prior to this quake.
