Earthquake measuring 5.0 shakes area near Abepura, Indonesia on Oct. 16

SARMI REGENCY, Papua — A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Abepura Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 16:01 UTC (01:01 local time), with its epicenter located roughly 173 km west-northwest of Abepura and a depth of 35 km.
