Update: Earthquake shakes region near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on Sept. 19 – 5.0 magnitude detected

A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at midday on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 01:49 UTC (12:49 local time), the area was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter approximately 133 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
