Earthquake measuring 5.0 rattles area near Abepura, Indonesia on Oct. 12

SARMI REGENCY, Papua — A 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded close to Abepura around midday Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tremor hit the region at 03:00 UTC (12:00 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated about 147 km west of Abepura and occurred at a depth of 47 km.
