The National Hurricane Center’s 10 a.m. Wednesday update reported that the system strengthened enough to get a name: Tropical Storm Gabrielle. It found new strength and had evolved from a tropical depression into a tropical storm with sustained winds of 45 mph. The 10 a.m. report was the first to confirm the system’s new name. Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,085 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands. Packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, it is tracking north-northwest at 22 mph.

“Little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours but some gradual intensification is forecast over the weekend”, analysts explained.

Today, the tropical depression system has officially been named Tropical Storm Gabrielle, as it has intensified into a tropical storm. The system’s new name was first made public in the 10 a.m. advisory.
