Update: Earthquake rattles region close to Waingapu, Indonesia on Aug. 11 – 5.0 magnitude reported

EAST SUMBA REGENCY, East Nusa Tenggara — Monday morning, a 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded close to Waingapu, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 02:11 UTC (10:11 local time). It occurred at a depth of 81 km with the epicenter situated about 31 km east-southeast of Waingapu. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.0.
