Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake shakes near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Aug. 11

Monday morning, a 5.0 magnitude quake was reported near Severo-Kuril’sk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted at 17:25 UTC (03:25 local time), with its epicenter located roughly 81 km southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and a depth of 47 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.1 but later downgraded to 5.0.
