Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude registered close to Ozernovskiy, Russia on Aug. 9

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake rattled close to Ozernovskiy Saturday evening.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 08:01 UTC (20:01 local time). The epicenter was situated roughly 119 km east-northeast of Ozernovskiy, at a depth of 78 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later downgraded to 5.0.

Tremors past week

Last week, the area has experienced 14 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater. The largest, measuring 5.1, hit near Vilyuchinsk five days ago.
