Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude detected close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Aug. 9

Saturday afternoon, a 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Severo-Kuril’sk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 06:52 UTC (16:52 local time), was centered approximately 96 km south-southwest of Severo-Kuril’sk. It occurred at a depth of 75 km.
