Update: Seismic activity on Aug. 7 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia registered

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.2 magnitude quake shook near Vilyuchinsk Thursday evening.

At 09:00 UTC (20:00 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter approximately 146 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Tremors last week

During the past week, there have been six earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 or greater centered nearby. The most significant was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake detected in the same area five days ago.
