According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Severo-Kuril’sk Wednesday morning.
A tremor hit the area at 21:32 UTC (07:32 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated approximately 115 km southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.

Tremors last week
In the past week, there have been five quakes of magnitude 5.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest one was a 5.9 earthquake that jolted the same region prior to this quake.
