Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake strikes near Camiña, Chile on Aug. 24

TAMARUGAL, Tarapacá — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Camiña Sunday night.

The tremor shook at 03:44 UTC (23:44 local time), with its epicenter located about 18 km east-southeast of Camiña and a depth of 101 km.

Those who noticed the earthquake are encouraged to report it via the USGS Felt Report form. The agency has so far received 12 reports via its online form from people who report they experienced the quake. The USGS DYFI report shows that people in a few cities, such as Arica and Iquique, experienced weak shaking from the tremor.
