Update: Earthquake measuring 5.2 shakes area close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 30

Around midnight Wednesday, a 5.2 magnitude quake was reported near Severo-Kuril’sk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted at 14:35 UTC (00:35 local time), with its epicenter situated roughly 187 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

Last week, there have been five tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest, measuring 5.6, struck the same region prior to this quake.
