Earthquake of magnitude 5.0 reported near Vilyuchinsk, Russia on July 30

Wednesday night, a 5.0 magnitude quake was recorded close to Vilyuchinsk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor jolted the area at 12:21 UTC (23:21 local time). It occurred at a depth of 25 km with the epicenter located roughly 182 km south-southeast of Vilyuchinsk.

Over the last week, there have been nine tremors of magnitude 5.5 or higher centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 6.1. The largest, measuring 6.9, occurred close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky prior to this quake.
