Update: July 30 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake detected close to Vilyuchinsk, Russia

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake shook close to Vilyuchinsk Wednesday afternoon.

The tremor, which hit the area at 04:59 UTC (15:59 local time), was centered about 165 km southeast of Vilyuchinsk. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
