July 29: Earthquake of 8.0 magnitude registered near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 8.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Tuesday morning.

It was reported that a tremor struck the region at 23:24 UTC (10:24 local time). The epicenter was situated approximately 131 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 74 km.

In the past week, there have been 15 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest one was a 5.2 earthquake that was recorded in the same area four days ago.
