Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake recorded near Macquarie Island region on July 29

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake hit close to Macquarie Island region Tuesday afternoon.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the region at 07:14 UTC (18:14 local time). The epicenter was situated of Macquarie Island region, at a depth of 10 km.

Nine earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been detected in the area in the past week, three of them larger than magnitude 6.1. The largest, measuring 6.6, slammed the same region three days ago.
