ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Adak Monday morning.
The tremor, which jolted the area at 7:07 p.m. (10:07 a.m. local time), was centered about 171 miles west-southwest of Adak. It occurred at a depth of 31 miles.

Adak hit twice last week
During the past week, there have been two tremors, exceeding magnitude 2.5, centered nearby. Both measured 4.0 maginude and were detected in the same region. One of them struck seven days earlier, and the other on July 14.
