Update: Earthquake shakes region close to Shwebo, Burma (Myanmar) on July 18 – 5.4 magnitude recorded

PYIN OO LWIN, Mandalay Region—A 5.4 magnitude quake was detected near Shwebo Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the area at 09:30 UTC (16:00 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated approximately 35 km east-northeast of Shwebo and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

In the past week, two earthquakes, greater than magnitude 2.5, have been centered in the area. The stronger, a magnitude 4.7 quake, was reported close to Mandalay three days earlier. The other, measuring 4.3, was felt close to Shwebo on July 14.
