5.4 magnitude earthquake shakes near Shwebo, Burma (Myanmar) on July 18

PYIN OO LWIN, Mandalay Region—A 5.4 magnitude quake was detected close to Shwebo Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 09:30 UTC (16:00 local time), with its epicenter located approximately 35 km east-northeast of Shwebo and a depth of 10 km.

Quakes last week

Over the past week, two tremors, greater than magnitude 2.5, have been centered in the area. The stronger, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake, was reported close to Mandalay three days earlier. The other, measuring 4.3, jolted near Shwebo on July 14.
