Update: Earthquake jolts region close to Pinnacles, CA on July 12 – 3.5 magnitude detected

SAN BENITO COUNTY, CA — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 3.5 magnitude quake occurred near Pinnacles Saturday morning.

The tremor shook the area at 1:31 a.m. It occurred at a depth of 7 miles with the epicenter located about 4 miles east of Pinnacles.

The agency has received 16 responses on its online form so far, from people reporting they felt the quake. Weak shaking has been registered and residents reported experiencing the tremor in multiple cities, including Carmel, Seaside and Soledad according to the USGS DYFI report.

Over the last week, a magnitude 2.5 quake was recorded nearby, occurring close to Pinnacles seven days earlier.
