Update: Earthquake of 3.4 magnitude reported close to Calipatria, CA on July 11

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 3.4 magnitude quake shook close to Calipatria Friday morning.

At 1:22 a.m., the region was rattled by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 7 miles, with its epicenter about 7 miles west-northwest of Calipatria.

Earthquakes past week

Three tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater have been detected in the area over the last week. The most significant was a 3.7 magnitude earthquake recorded near Borrego Springs prior to this quake.
