Update: Earthquake rattles region near Calipatria, CA on July 11 – 3.3 magnitude detected

IMPERIAL COUNTY, CA — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a preliminary 3.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Calipatria Friday morning.

A tremor shook the area at 1:22 a.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was positioned roughly 7 miles west-northwest of Calipatria and occurred at a depth of 6 miles.

Tremors last week

Three quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or greater have been registered in the region during the past week. The most significant was a 3.7 magnitude earthquake that jolted near Borrego Springs prior to this quake.
