A 7.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Macquarie Island region Monday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor shook at 22:10 UTC (08:10 local time), with its epicenter situated near Macquarie Island region and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week
Last week, three quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or above have been detected in the area, three of them larger than magnitude 6.1. The strongest, a 6.6 magnitude quake, struck in the same region two days earlier.
