ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Nikolski Tuesday morning.

The tremor, which rattled the area at 5:16 p.m. (8:16 a.m. local time), was centered roughly 34 miles east-northeast of Nikolski. It occurred at a depth of 41 miles. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.4 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

The agency has so far received 10 reports via its online form from people who say they felt the quake. The USGS DYFI report shows that residents in a few cities, including Unalaska and Nikolski, felt light to moderate shaking from the tremor.
