ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.8 magnitude quake occurred close to Adak on Saturday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The tremor struck the area at 4:42 a.m. (4:42 p.m. local time). It occurred at a depth of 24 miles with the epicenter roughly 185 miles west-southwest of Adak. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later upgraded it to 5.8.
