NIUATOPUTAPU, Niuas — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Hihifo on Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which struck the area at 04:06 UTC (16:06 local time), was centered approximately 155 km south-southeast of Hihifo. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
