Update: Seismic activity on Aug. 1 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake close to Ozernovskiy, Russia registered

A 5.1 magnitude quake was reported close to Ozernovskiy Friday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 08:31 UTC (19:31 local time), the region was shaken by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 43 km, with its epicenter approximately 142 km east-southeast of Ozernovskiy. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.

Over the last week, there have been 68 quakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, four of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake, was recorded near Vilyuchinsk three days earlier.
