A 5.4 magnitude quake occurred close to Ascension Island on Thursday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 20:36 UTC (19:36 local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter north of Ascension Island. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.4.
