ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — Tuesday night, a 5.0 magnitude quake was reported close to Nikolski, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor struck the area at 9:02 a.m. (10:02 p.m. local time). It occurred at a depth of 6 miles with the epicenter located approximately 82 miles south-southwest of Nikolski. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
