A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered close to Severo-Kuril’sk around midday Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 03:34 UTC (13:34 local time), the region was shaken by a tremor. The earthquake struck at a depth of 13 km, with its epicenter about 190 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
