5.0 magnitude earthquake shakes near Ende, Indonesia on Aug. 15

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Ende on Saturday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 05:45 UTC (13:45 local time), with its epicenter roughly 62 km north-northwest of Ende and a depth of 10 km.

Tremors past week

14 quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or greater have been detected in the region over the last week, two of them larger than magnitude 6.1. The most significant was a 7.7 magnitude earthquake reported in the same area on Aug. 15.
